Shivapuri National Park is a protected area located in the northern part of Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. It was established in 2002 and covers an area of 159 square kilometers. The park is named after the Shivapuri Peak, which is the second-highest peak in the Kathmandu Valley.The park is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including over 300 species of birds, 19 species of mammals, and several species of reptiles and amphibians. Some of the mammals found in the park include the Himalayan black bear, barking deer, wild boar, and leopard cat.The park is also an important watershed area, with several streams and rivers originating from its hills and forests. Shivapuri National Park is a popular destination for trekking and hiking, with several trails leading through its forests and hills. The park is also home to several religious sites, including the famous Buddhist monastery of Nagi Gompa.Visitors to Shivapuri National Park can enjoy a range of activities, including hiking, trekking, bird watching, camping, and nature walks. The park offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and the Kathmandu Valley. It is an important conservation area and a great place to experience Nepal’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
After 30 minutes of car driving you will arrive at Budhanilkantha to start your day hiking tour to Shivapuri National Park. Start your hike from the southern boundary of National Park. Be ready to climb stairs, as part of the trail consists of stone steps, leading you slowly but gently to the top of Shavapuri hill. On the way, pass Nagi Gumpa, the only monastery where nuns can practice Buddhism, and a place that foreigners often visit for meditation. It is a steep uphill hike along narrow trails that gradually lead up to the top of Shivapuri view station from where you will be to the breathtaking view of the Himalayas including,Mt. Ganesh Himal, Langtang Himal, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Manaslu and other so many mountains including eye catching view of complete Kathmandu city.
